“Bleed Me” came about around the time we decided to leave Chicago and try life out on the road. Mayor Daley had just sold the parking meters to a private company and it had become impossible to park anywhere without paying an arm and a leg and Yuma was working at a late night bar and watching the sun come up every morning when he got off work. Yuma Wray lived in Chicago for six years and I lived there for seven. After seven long harsh winters, a tour through the Southern states and a winter in Southern California didn’t sound half bad. Chicago’s a great town, but if you’re not careful it can really chew you up and spit you out.

“Bleed Me”

Well I swore that I would stay
might take all night
But now I’m packing up my bags
Before Chicago bleeds me dry

You find me laying low
drinking on my own
Cause you sold me out for change
And now I’m walking out the door

I know I can’t make you cry
Might take all night
Going south to Cincinnati
Before Chicago bleeds me dry

My mind is made
My debts are paid
Now I’m gonna pull you out
Like a bottle of cheap red wine

Gonna ask too many questions
Don’t know how to lie
Gonna stow away to Memphis
Before Chicago bleeds me dry

That bridge is coming down
I ain’t the one to pay that toll
Swore I’d be
I’d be here till I got old
You askin’ me too much
To watch the sun come up each and every night
Gonna hitch back to Virginia
Before this city bleeds me dry

I swore that I would stay
Might take all might
Now I’m packing up my bags
Before Chicago bleeds me dry
